HICABI GÜLGEN
Hicabi Gulgen was born in Amasya-Turkey, where
he studied primary and secondary schools, in 1970. In 1993,
he received BA in theology from Faculty of Theology, Marmara
University, and MA degree in the Department of the History
of Turkish-Islamic Arts in 1996. Between 1994 and 1998, he
taught in different parts of Turkey.
Now, he is a lecturer in Faculty of
Theology, Uludag University since 1999, and doing Ph.D. on
“Ottoman Gravestones in the Early Period”. He teaches the
following courses; “History of Turkish Islamic Arts, Islamic
Art and Esthetics, Turkish Marbling Art, Islamic Calligraphy
“.
While he was studying in Faculty of
Theology, he took courses from Prof. Dr. Muhittin Serin and
learned a style of Islamic calligraphy (Rik‘a). In 1995, he
started studying on Marbling Art from Hikmet Barutcugil and
still continues practicing Classical Turkish Marbling
techniques.
In 2006, he gave seminars and exhibited
his works in various universities in the US where he was
invited to do workshop. He opened personal and mixed
exhibitions and has works in special collections as well as
his articles and papers in Islamic Arts.
