About EbruAbout the ArtistGalleryContactTurkce

The art, joint heritage of humankind, displays it self as a different style, pattern-color and sound in various cultural circles. Islamic art, too, from the beginning 7th century to date, established its own emotion and thought system through its specific works. Muslim societies constituted the schools of this art by intermingling Islamic thought with their artistic taste. Also, Turks who embraced Islam as a religion from the 9th century, constituted one of the biggest branches of Islamic art through their works within a highly wide spectrum; from architecture to music, calligraphy to marbling, by mixing Islamic thought by their aesthetic perception.

Marbling, one of the Turkish ornamenting arts, is an arithmetic of color and pattern which the artist’s emotions and thoughts emerged surface the water. Due to the characteristic feature of tradational Turkish arts which is always practiced in a teacher-disciple relation, this art aims to teach the Turkish aesthetic perception on the hand and ethical maturity on the other hand.

The artist dealing with the marbling re-discovers the patterns and the color-arrangements of the past. The move of the water and the new shapes emerging from the paints teaches the humankind the continuous change that occurs in the universe. Each marbling practice which is impossible to re-occur, froze “the unknown” called as time, in the eyes and the hearts. Although it is the artist who scatters the paints surface the water, yet it is the Absolute Will that gives it, its last shape.

A lecturer in Uludag University, Hicabi Gülgen, along with The History of Islamic Arts delivers Marbling Art and Calligraphy courses practically in his workshop. This page contains and exhibits his works of Marbling Art.
